Manic May

May has been a crazy month! Semester coming to an end at two universities, lots of yard work, and of course, spending time with family and friends. Can I just say how much I love teaching?!!! It is truly my calling. I will miss the time with my students over the summer, but I am really looking forward to chilling and reading FOR FUN!!!

I'm back to singing again! It feels great! I joined a group called Encore Chorale (it's basically an old people's choir-the minimum age to join is 55), but it got me back to music. I decided to rent out my harp to a dear young student because I just was not playing it. The instrument needs to be played to keep the wood from drying and tightening. I needed music back in my life, and singing doesn't take as much practice! We had two concerts in May. It was so much fun!

I have also joined the Unitarian Universalist Congregation. The community is fabulous...and I joined the choir! I was surprised at the number of people I knew who also attend. It has been a true breath of fresh air!

My spring semester with the Goucher Prison Education Program has been a lifechanger! My students were absolutely amazing. They were so very eager to learn; I likened them to sponges! They recognize how important education is and how it will make a difference as they re-enter society.

It has also been campaign season. I filed to run for a seat on the Orphans' Court of Frederick County. It's probate law and compassion, understanding, and problem solving are the job requirements. I'm running with a great team-there are three seats on that court. Campaigning has meant spending lots of time with other candidates, two of whom I was very excited to spend a bit of time with this month.

The weather has not been great this month. The April's showers came a month late, so it has been gray, chilly, and rainy. Hopefully, my plants will benefit from it.
